My favorite time of year

This is the season of cooler air, of fall colors, rain, cosy soup dinners and longer nights. This is the time to me to rest, regroup, nest, garden and create.

I ran my last workshop of the year a couple of weeks ago at San Diego Watercolor Society with 19 wonderful students and a great support staff. Thanks to all!

Next year's workshops are up for viewing on my workshops page.

I'm most excited about my upcoming spring workshop for Madeline Island School of the Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico in April. Details here.
Think about joining us for a totally blissful week of painting, printing, and drawing.
Imagine yourself in one of the most beautiful, artful towns in the western US.

Here are some outstanding student samples from this year's workshops in Santa Fe

Art Unraveled...here I come

Hola everyone!
I'm gearing up for my workshops at Art Unraveled starting on towards the end of next week. The vendor show is Saturday, August 3. I'm packing my car with clay goodies and paintings for sale....and I still have room in my workshops so take a look!

Beasties ...I'm painting the glazes and all will be fired at cone 6.

These unglazed works are parts for my totems that stack on a metal pole. They will be glazed today and fired again in the kiln soon.

You buy the individual pieces to design your own totem. I've started an oceanic theme this summer!  I'll have poles available at the vendor show.

Flying high

I'm still flying high from all of my grand adventures over the past few months.
My latest trip was to  Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts - a Wellspring of Creativity in Arts and Crafts, in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
I taught 3 wonderful workshops there...what a beautiful town and art destination!
Thanks to all who took my workshops and to the outstanding staff!

I shall return next year to teach..... the grounds include cabins from the early 1800's, amazing gardens complete with a stream down the middle, lodging in historic stone buildings on site, and a complete blacksmith shop!

....scroll down for the next adventure to a brewery turned into a magnificent pottery studio, galleries, and more......

 Converted auto repair shop

Diana and Tom Johnston bought this old 1850 limestone brewery years ago and converted it into a magnificent space filled with art. They are master potters...they even have a gas kiln inside the building! Unheard of in California. Brewery Pottery is one of the coolest places I've been to...I have to say....
keep scrolling down for the adventure....

so...behind this door on the right was an adventure my friend Laura and I decided to take on with permission from the owner, Diana. This door led to caverns lower than the basement where the beer was kept at an even temp. It was really creepy cool! We walked very carefully using our phone flashlights and discovered the beginnings of stalactites on the floor in the back chamber. There were also the remains of small chipmunks but we didn't see any bats. Natural springs still meander down on the floor and moisture seeps through the walls!

that same evening we found the old lead mines in town along with the ever popular Cheese trail...after all....Wisconsin is the cheesiest! Drinks and Pizza polished off the grand adventure...till next time Laura!

Flying

I've been flying high to workshops the past couple of months with more in the works. Off to Colorado Springs on next week to teach at Art and Soul. After that, I'm off to teach at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in mid June....my first time teaching there....very exciting!
My appearance on Crossing South via KPBS can be streamed online anytime you feel like it! It was a terrific experience and Jorge was the perfect host. Many thanks to Baja Rancho Art for making this all come into play. And...we've added a September workshop for those who couldn't make it last month.

The Santa Fe Workshops via Madeline Island School of the Arts Winter location were a blast and they invited me to teach there for the next 2 years in Spring. Dates are April 20 to 24, 2020 and April 19 to 23, 2021. Details will be posted soon!
Here are some photos from the workshops ...join me next year or the year after in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
